The Flirc/Kodi/Harmony profile doesn't offer a built-in "Player Controls OSD" function, and every time I've attempted to program my Harmony/Flirc remote to do something as simple as "type the letter 'M'," I've been defeated by the quite frustrating lack of information on how to do all but a few super-simple preset things with Flirc. In Kodi, typing the letter "M" on a keyboard during playback brings up the "Player controls OSD," which is apparently the only way to access subtitle downloads, as well as other video and audio settings during playback. Now you can program that button using the Flirc GUI Repeat this for as many commands as you need to add then remember to sync the settings: If successful, when you hover over the button it will show the command you dragged onto it: Then drag and drop this new command onto the button you want (in this example "Favourite 1"): The new command will now show up on the side bar (highlighted below): If successful you should see a message similar to this: For my button I used an old blu-ray player remote I had: The software will guide you through the steps of adding the new button. Then we want to "Add a missing command", in the case i'm adding a button to open an app called "Kodi" (hence the name of the new command): I'm choosing "Favourite 1" button to program in this example, as you can see it has nothing assigned to the button:Ĭlick "Teach command" in the bottom right corner of the window: If we want to add a custom command then we'll have to add a signal. If the remote button has nothing assigned to the button, when it is pressed it won't emit a signal (so Flirc has nothing to respond to). Below is an example of hovering over the keys: If the button is not assigned then the software will say " Nothing (Not assigned)". To determine what buttons have functions paired with them hover over the button with your cursor. You then be presented with a virtual picture of your remote control (in this example I have a harmony 300): Select the "Buttons" tab then click the drop down menu and select "Flirc Media Player" Open the "myharmony" app (available here: ) This article describes how to add customs buttons to your harmony remote which you can then map to a custom keyboard combination on flirc (e.g. haven't tried the netflix / ff / rewind etc for now.For information setting up your harmony device to work with flirc see this article The return / home / menu buttons do nothing, even though they are mapping to a corresponding function in harmony profile and mapped to that in Flirc. Only the directional and OK buttons seem to work. Tried remapping all buttons in the flirc software to corresponding buttons from the harmony profile. tried also the latest beta flirc software 3.24.3-3. Selected the nvidia shield gen2 profile in flirc software (although not sure i understand - does that only change the remote picture ? is there a way to "program" that profile directly into the remote without remapping everything manually ? ). Tried several harmony profiles (nvidia shield, flirc shield, and a generic TV profile to remap later). Unfortunately i haven't had much success setting up the flirc. I have purchased a flirc gen2 to try out. I have seen that the flirc should be able also to control the SHield pro 2019 by translating IR codes from the harmony to commands sent by USB. For now i can control almost all of the shield remote buttons through the TV profile on the harmony remote thanks to HDMI CEC without the need for a flirc or anything else. I'd rather avoid upgrading the harmony since i don't want to have to charge the remote every couple days.
